Former prosecutor Hagen Brody is a product of the Sarasota County School system graduating from Brookside middle school and Sarasota High School where he brought home a state championship for tennis his senior year. He then received his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and captained their NCAA Division I tennis team to a conference championship. Returning to Florida, Hagen received his law degree from the University of Miami.
Following law school, he returned to Sarasota determined to make a difference.
“My passion was to come home and give back to the community that afforded me so much as a kid. Sarasota was such a wonderful place to grow up – I wanted to ensure others would experience the same to live, grow, and work.
He joined the State Attorney’s Office becoming a Sarasota County Prosecutor and spent the next few years in the County Division where he represented our community in hundreds of municipal ordinance violations, mental health hearings, and juvenile proceedings. His work with young people continued outside of the courtroom becoming heavily involved in Teen Court of Sarasota where he continues as a member of their Board of Directors to explore new ways to improve our area juvenile diversion programs. At the same time, he began his volunteer work at Booker High School with their Law Academy magnet program and still to this day coaches the mock trial team for the Tornados. When it comes to kids and the criminal justice system, he believes, the best scenario is keeping them out of it in the first place and empowering them to do great things.
“Children are our most valuable asset and we can’t have a conversation about the future of Sarasota without them in mind.”
During his tenure as a prosecutor he would eventually rise to the felony division prosecuting serious felonies in our community with a focus on taking dangerous drug dealers off the street. Now he looks to put that experience to work and take lingering City issues head on.
“My recent experience as a Sarasota County Prosecutor gives me a unique perspective on how our laws and ordinances are implemented in today’s Sarasota and how they can be improved. Just as important, it also allowed me to develop essential working relationships with all of the organizations, agencies, and branches of government needed to competently enable plans to address many of Sarasota’s lingering issues.”
At the top of his list is implementing a serious homeless solution to Sarasota.
“Homelessness in Sarasota is the top priority for me. Aside from our moral obligation to address this issue, it’s proliferation over the years is killing small business, property values, and quality of life on main street.”
In addition to Teen Court of Sarasota and Booker High School volunteer work he was recently nominated and confirmed to the Board of Directors for the Sarasota County Bar Association.
Now in private practice at Fowler Law Group on Main Street, Hagen has the flexibility and time to apply his experience and lead Sarasota toward tangible results. In short, he is ready to make a difference on the City Commission.
