Three years of study in political science and public administration at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, Georgia Military College, and Georgia College & State University

Among the most active volunteer civic servants in Sarasota for 12 years, Matthew Wooddall brings diverse, lengthy experience to his pursuit of the Sarasota City Commission District 3 seat. His numerous roles on citizens’ panels and groups have equipped him with experience in budget and taxing oversight, beautification, traffic calming, public safety, police community relations, and economic development.

Improving the city of Sarasota has been the focus of Matt’s volunteer efforts, which include more than a decade with the Alta Vista Neighborhood Association, three years on the city’s Nuisance Abatement Board, three years of service with the Sarasota Civic League, and a year of service with the Tax Oversight Committee.

Matt’s experience in property management gives him a direct understanding of how beautification and zoning decisions affect residents, business owners, and neighborhood communities. He is currently an independent contractor in the property management field.

His years of experience as a small business owner, running a boutique concierge service, has also equipped Matt with a personal understanding of the challenges facing Sarasota’s entrepreneurs. He also led his condo association for three years, a role that further equipped him with the skills needed to oversee budget and staffing decisions.

Key issues in which Matt has played a pivotal leadership role include the depoliticization of Sarasota’s city manager post, responsible use of our area’s natural and financial resources, and pressing for responsible job creation and tax base growth. His focus remains squarely on the best interests of Sarasota’s taxpayers, residents, and job-creators.
