Courtney was presented and honored before the City Commission on Monday, December 3, 2012
Courtney Mendez, Sr. Planner, NDS, has proven to be one of the most versatile employees in the Neighborhood Development Services department. She not only handles long term planning issues, but also day to day petitions. Courtney is one of our most highly skilled computer persons and handles the department’s entire mapping and GIS needs. She has cross trained and learned our complete zoning function and is excellent with customer service. Many residents come into the office and specifically ask to talk with Courtney.
Staff was recently analyzing a request related to a new major structure downtown and making determinations related to the design that the City staff would support. Instead of just analyzing the request, Courtney took the initiative to actually create and draw three new alternatives in terms of street and right of way layout and building design that could be vetted with the applicant in a proactive manner. By doing so, this extra effort made it easier for the project to become a success.
Earlier this year, Courtney was instrumental in holding additional meetings with neighbors. She assisted the developer and his planning representatives in successfully achieving the rezoning which will allow the new PF Chang’s to be constructed on the south side of Laurel Park. By spending extra time on this project and reaching out to the neighborhoods involved, Courtney was able to provide necessary communication to those residents so they understood the rezoning needs.
Courtney is extremely active in the local planning and zoning chapter and coordinates many events that keep staff current on the latest laws and policy changes that affect the profession. Congratulations!
