Kathy was presented and honored before the City Commission on Monday, October 1, 2012
Katherine Gusie, Utilities, is the Plant Chemist at the R.O Water Treatment Facility. She has worked tirelessly to maintain the safety of the public water supply. She routinely performs chemical and microbiological testing at the Treatment Facility to provide the highest quality product possible. Whenever there is an event that has the potential to contaminate the distribution system, such as a water line break, she collects and runs bacteriological samples to document that the disinfection process has remained viable and that there is no microbial growth within the system.
Kathy has been known to work directly with our residents when water supply to various properties has been questionable. She takes the time to engage in conversation with each resident, takes water samples and informs the homeowner of the degree of water safety. She records the content of the water samples taken, and triple checks her work until she is satisfied that the quality of our water is safe. Kathy shows respect to each concerned customer and puts them at ease. This helps them understand how water can be affected by construction, water meter changes, or adjustments in pressure.
Kathy recently received her State of Floirda Department of Environmental Protection License. She’s been trained, through the State of Florida, in water quality assurance, environmental microbiology, wet chemistry and algae identification. She serves as a member of the Florida Society of Environmental Analysts.
A City of Sarasota employee who takes ownership and responsibility in her work, Kathy is to be commended for her diligence, hard work, job knowledge and dedication. Congratulations!
