Housing Rehabilitation Program - an interest free loan program that helps income eligible families make necessary repairs and improvements to their homes. The homeowner determines the repairs that will be made to the home and selects their own contractor. The maximum amount that a homeowner may borrow is $60,000 and there are no monthly payments. Instead, the homeowner repays the loan when the home is sold, transferred, no longer occupied by the borrower, or 30 years, whichever occurs first. The maximum value of a home that can receive assistance is $272,195.
Barrier Removal Program - a grant and forgivable loan program designed to remove the barriers in homes to allow income eligible disabled and elderly residents live independently. The first $3,000 in assistance is a grant that does not need to be repaid. Improvements costing between $3,000 and $15,000 are a loan that is forgiven at a rate of $3,000 a year as long as the property is not sold, transferred, leased and the homeowner continues to live in the home. There are no monthly payments or interest on the forgiven loan.
