10th Street Boat Basin Dredging Project
The City of Sarasota, in partnership with the West Coast Inland Navigational District (WCIND) and Sarasota County will be initiating the boat basin dredging project in the near future.
The funding for this project is provided by authority of the WCIND, Sarasota County and the City of Sarasota.
The contractor is currently staging equipment on the south side of the basin and this area will be utilized for the material to be processed and loaded. It will then be deposited permanently in a licensed landfill, at an upland location, in Duette.
The Contractor will tentatively be starting the dredging operation the week of April 10, 2017 and boaters using the ramps will incur minimal impacts during the project. The contractor is experienced in this type of work and the proximity of marine traffic. The project is planned to be complete in mid-August with 15-20,000 cubic yards of deposited sediment removed.
When completed, the bottom elevation of the basin will be at +/_ -8 feet providing additional draft for boaters. The City is also currently re-decking the docks on the North side at the ramps with the planned completion in mid-June. This effort will notably enhance the use and enjoyment of the basin by the boating public.
